Regions Committee

Charge

The Regions Committee promotes the work of the Academy's regional groups by recommending policies and good practices in administering regional groups; fostering communication between and among regional secretaries and other regional officers; and administering the regional development grants program.

Duties and Responsibilities

Members of the Regions Committee may be expected to participate in the following:

  • Regional Officers' Breakfast at the Annual Meeting in November
  • Regional Development Grant Program
  • Regional Travel Grants
  • Additional REC activities:
    • Spring Regional Meetings
    • Each Regionally Elected Coordinator should attend their region's meeting and be involved in the planning of the meeting. RECs are the only officials authorized by the AAR Office to sign contracts with universities, hotels, and conference centers that provide facilities and other amenities for regional meetings.
    • After each regional meeting, the RECs should report any changes to their region's board to the AAR Office.
    • Each REC serves a term of three years, with the possibility of re-election for one additional three-year term. All RECs must have current AAR membership.
    • RECs must submit a financial report and annual report to the AAR Office at the end of each fiscal year.
    • RECs are expected to keep a formal record of the proceedings and activities of their region, including minutes of regional executive committee meetings, business meetings, and meetings at the AAR Annual Meeting. Copies of the region's records, including any reports, contracts, and meeting programs, should be sent annually to the AAR Office.

Timeline of Activities

  • Financial reports and an annual report should be submitted to the AAR Office by June 30 every year.
  • After each regional meeting, the RECs should report any changes to their region's board to the AAR Office.

Committee Members

  • Term of Service: AAR Regions Director serves a three-year, non-renewable term. Each Regionally Elected Coordinator serves a term of three years, with the possibility of re-election for one additional three-year term. All RECs must have current AAR membership.
  • Committee Composition: Ten regionally elected coordinators and the AAR Regions Director, who serves as committee chair. The AAR Regions Director is a member of the AAR Board of Directors. Each Regionally Elected Coordinator (REC) serves as a member of their Regional Board of Directors.
