AAR Membership Categories and Rates

AAR membership dues are designed to support you at any level in your career from student to retired and everything in between. We offer flat rate dues amounts for our student and special international members and income-based sliding scale membership rates for professional and retired members. $700-2,500/YEAR

This membership provides institutions with exclusive opportunities to engage with the largest community of scholars and professionals in the field of religion. Your institution will gain access to valuable resources, including discounted rates for Annual Meeting participation, advertising opportunities, and job postings. This membership also fosters institutional visibility within the academic community, supporting professional development and collaboration. Student Membership

$50/YEAR

This membership category is open to all those enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program. Student memberships can be renewed for up to ten years. Student members have access to all AAR member benefits.

Professional Membership

$60-270/YEAR (BASED ON INCOME)

This membership category applies to all those not currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program. Professional membership types include Applied Religious Studies, Part-Time Contingent, Full-Time Contingent, Tenure, Tenure-Track, and Independent Scholars.

Retired Membership

$60–$270/YEAR (BASED ON INCOME)

This membership category is open to any individual who is retired from one’s institution or place of employment. Retired members have access to all AAR member benefits.

Special International Membership

$15/YEAR

International scholars working or residing outside those countries designated as high-income by the World Bank may take advantage of a discounted rate of $15 for membership. Special International members have access to all AAR member benefits.

Members from the following countries are not eligible: United States, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

Supporting Membership

$500/YEAR

This membership category is open to any person. A portion of your Supporting Membership is tax-deductible. Supporting members have access to all AAR member benefits and help provide a stable base for the AAR’s ongoing operating budget.

Sustaining Membership

$1,000/YEAR

This membership category is open to any person. In addition to all AAR member benefits, Sustaining members receive complimentary Annual Meeting registration and priority access to Annual Meeting hotels as a VIP. A portion of the membership is tax-deductible.

How Do I Join?

Joining AAR is easy. To join online, select the membership category that best suits you (above) and follow the prompts to complete your membership. To join by phone, call us at 404-727-3049 to complete the process.

Length of membership:  Please note that your AAR membership is valid for a 12-month cycle and should be renewed annually from the date of your initial registration for maintenance of your full benefits.

Membership Refund Policy: Refunds for membership must be requested within 14 days of the join date and are at the discretion of the AAR. No refunds will be granted after the 14-day window. Additionally, members who have registered for, participated in, or attended an in-person or online Annual Meeting during the 14-day refundable period will not be eligible for a refund. Refunds will not be issued if an individual's proposal for the Annual Meeting is not accepted. To request a refund, please contact membership@aarweb.org.
