This program connects members in need of mentoring with experienced professionals.

In addition to meeting in person at the November Annual Meeting, Cup of Coffee Mentoring will now include online sessions from August through December.

How It Works

  • Mentoring pairs/pods will meet a minimum of two times between August and December, but they may meet more if they collectively choose to do so.
  • Mentoring will be either one-on-one or small pods (2-3 people)
  • Mentoring pairs/pods will match on a variety of areas including academic field of study, religious tradition of study, professional interests, and personal affinity areas.
  • Mentor registration is not yet open. It ends March 31.
  • Mentees will chose their mentors the first two weeks of April.
  • Mentoring pairs/pods will select and day/time to meet that works for everyone.

Mentee Instructions

Whether you are a graduate student, contingent faculty, junior faculty, or anyone searching for some wisdom and guidance, this is a great opportunity for you to talk with someone who can help you navigate the ins and outs of the religious academy and beyond.

  • You may select only ONE mentoring slot.
  • Choose a mentor based on field of study, professional interests, experience, affinity group, and/or expertise.
  • When you select, pay attention to whether it is one-on-one or pod!
  • Mentor selections are made on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Mentor Requirements

Mentors should have:

  • Five or more years of professional experience in the field.
    • NOTE: If you have less than five years of experience, you can still apply for consideration if you have a specific area of expertise to share including applying for jobs and careers outside the academy.
  • Expertise in any of the following areas: employment seeking, networking, tenure process, contingent faculty issues, publishing, diverse careers, leadership, project management/organizational skills, etc.
  • A willingness to share insights in the profession to help guide the mentee(s).
  • Availability for a minimum of two online meetings for one hour between August 1 and December 31.
    • The days and times of the meetings will be determined by the mentoring pair/pod.
