A campaign offering the chance to win $100 while helping AAR to better understand our members, show the full diversity and scope of the field of religious studies, and render the member directory a more useful resource for collaboration and locating scholars with similar interests.
AAR convenes more than 6,000 members with very diverse backgrounds, interests, and research fields, but less than 15 percent of our members have indicated their research interests in their member profiles.
That’s why we’re launching a campaign to Fill in the Blanks.
What is it?
We want you to fill out your member profile to include basic information about your research interests so that we can:
- better facilitate scholarly communities
- provide a more valuable membership offering to our constituencies
- paint a fuller demographic profile of our membership in order to apply for new grants to support different scholars and initiatives
- show the public how integral religious studies is to the maintenance of a flourishing, pluralistic society through a social media campaign

As an incentive for filling out your profile, we will be awarding 20 completed member profiles with $100 each. To be eligible, you must fill out your member profile between today and September 28. On September 29, we will select member profiles at random and the first 20 records with completed member profiles will receive $100 (as a gift card or credited to your next membership renewal).
What counts as a completed profile?
We’ve put together a guide on how to update your profile and a video that walks you through the process.
For your profile to be considered “complete,” you must:
- Complete all fields in the About Me*, Contact Details, and Educational Details sections
- Add research interests to at least two categories
- Save your changes after each section is updated
If you have any questions, please email membership@aarweb.org.
*Please note, the demographic information you fill out will not be visible in the member directory; it will only be used by staff in aggregate for grant applications or to send info about specific opportunities for particular constituencies.
