Members of the American Academy
of Religion are invited to nominate persons for the Ombudspersons positions. Nominations
will be reviewed by the AAR’s Governance and Leadership Development Committee, and the candidates selected will
stand for election in fall 2021
Please note: Nominations
for Ombudspersons positions to be elected in 2020 closed last year. This
current open call cycle is for nominations for Ombudspersons positions to be
elected in 2021.
The AAR Ombudspersons are elected
AAR members who are charged with representing the interests of the AAR
membership by addressing complaints of a violation of AAR policies as specified
by the Professional Conduct Procedures.
In keeping with the AAR values of
professional responsibility, diversity, inclusion, respect, free inquiry,
critical examination, transparency, and academic excellence, the AAR Board of
Directors adopted the Professional Conduct Procedures. The procedures build
upon the AAR Professional Conduct Policy, setting out specific professional
obligations and related processes.
The AAR Ombudspersons work with
the AAR’s Committee on Professional Conduct. AAR will provide training for the
Ombudspersons.
AAR members may submit a
self-nomination or a nomination of someone else.
To be considered for any elected
position, the following information is required:
- A brief biographical sketch of no more than 200 words
- A statement on your candidacy for the position, between 450 and
500 words (e.g., what objectives and goals you would bring to
the position) - Current curriculum vitae
Please note: If you nominate someone else and do not have the
nominee’s supporting material at the time of the nomination, you need to
contact your nominee to make sure that person submits the supporting material.
Your nominee will need to submit their materials by the deadline via the online
submission form. The AAR staff is not able to notify the nominee and/or solicit
the nominee for the supporting material.
Nominations must be submitted
through the AAR’s Nominations Submission System.
The deadline to submit a
nomination is 11:59 pm Eastern Time, on Tuesday, September 1, 2020.
Late or incomplete submissions will
not be accepted.
Please send any questions to nominations@aarweb.org.
