2023 Annual Meetings

The 2023 Annual Meetings in San Antonio, Texas, November 18–21, hosted by the American Academy of Religion (AAR) and the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL), is the world's largest gathering of scholars interested in the study of religion.

You do not want to miss the opportunity to connect with colleagues, publishers, and friends, engage with leading scholars within the field of religion, and network with potential employers and others from around the world.

There will be over 1,000 events, including many academic sessions, workshops, meetings, receptions, and tours. The Annual Meeting Exhibit Hall will feature more than 100 publishers, and you will be able to pitch ideas, connect with others, and review the latest publications within the field

Join Us in Giving Back to Our Host City! 

During the Annual Meeting in San Antonio, we are collecting donations for the Dual Generation Initiative, a community-wide initiative aimed at disrupting the cycle of poverty. Part of United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, the Dual Generation Initiative coordinates the expertise of several charitable partners who bring decades of experience serving and supporting at-risk children and families. 

United Way will use our donations for a take-as-you-need station in their offices on both the East & West sides of town.
 
United Way is asking for donations of new, unopened items from the list below: 

  • Feminine hygiene products  
  • Toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash 
  • Wet wipes (body) 
  • Face mask 
  • Wet wipes (disinfectant) 
  • Deodorant 
  • Hand towels
  • Shampoo, conditioner, body wash 
  • Individual hand sanitizer 
  • Body lotion 
  • Lip balm 
  • Hairbrushes & combs 
  • Socks 

We will have collection bins next to the Information Desk for these items.

Therapy Dogs at Your Service! 

For the first time, the AAR will welcome therapy dogs with PAWS for Service to the Annual Meeting. If you have some free time or just a few minutes, stop by and say hi to our furry friends.

When: Saturday and Sunday 10 AM - 3 PM CT

Where: Convention Center, Hemisfair 3 (Ballroom Level)
