The Online June Sessions of the Annual Meeting will have everything you expect from our traditional annual meetings, including nearly 60 sessions and a presidential panel. Share innovative scholarship, network with colleagues and mentors, collaborate, and learn in a fully accessible environment. The Online June Sessions of the Annual Meeting will be held from June 23-25, 2026 with a free pre-conference day on June 22.
Our 2026 registration rates have been updated from previous years and will be as follows:
AAR Student member – $25
AAR member – $50
Non-members – $60
Registration for the 2026 June Sessions will open in mid to late April.
Program
Our Annual Meetings program brings together religion scholars from around the world to present innovative research. The program, created in part by our Program Units and Seminars, includes academic sessions, presidential and plenary sessions, committee sessions, and workshops. The Online June Sessions of the Annual Meeting will also host a free pre-conference day with workshops and professional development opportunities.
Presidential Theme and Presidential Address
Each year, the AAR President creates and shares a new presidential theme that helps to shape the overall program of the annual meetings. Check out the current presidential theme.
Other Events
The American Academy of Religion (AAR) welcomes affiliated organizations to meet in conjunction with the 2026 AAR June Online Annual Meeting. Like at the November Annual Meeting, you, your organization, or your academic department can host a session during the Online June Annual Meeting to connect, network, and gather in an online space, accessible to scholars across the globe. We provide the online platform and tech support while you provide the scholarly community, programming, and connection!
All meetings offered during the Annual Meeting are considered Other Events and must be submitted online for approval. Organizers and attendees of Other Events during the Online June Annual Meeting must register for the online conference. Other Events registration will open on April 9, 2026.

When will the 2026 Online June Sessions of the Annual Meeting take place?
The Online June Sessions of the Annual Meeting will be held from June 23-25, 2026 with a free pre-conference day on June 22.
Will this online meeting replace the traditional in-person November meeting?
No. This online meeting is in addition to our in-person November meeting, co-hosted with SBL.
When will registration open?
Registration will open on April 9, 2026.
When will Other Events registration open?
Other Events registration will also open on April 9.
What is the cost of hosting an Other Event?
There is a $100 fee for hosting a 90-minute Other Event.
What is the cancellation policy?
- BEFORE May 1, 2026 – All registration cancellation requests received on or before May 1st will be refunded in full.
- AFTER May 1, 2026 – No refunds will be issued after this date.
- Access to the 2026 Online June Sessions recordings will not be available once a cancellation is processed.
- Please submit cancellation requests to reg@aarweb.org. Registrations are non-transferable.
How long will sessions be during the online meeting?
Most sessions will be 90 minutes.
Will online sessions be scheduled in different time zones so that scholars across the globe can participate?
Yes, our session schedule will try to reach as many people across the globe as possible.
What programming will be available during the Online June Sessions of the Annual Meeting?
Like our in-person November meeting, programming for the Online June Sessions will include innovative and prestigious scholarship created through our AAR Program Units and Committees, committee meetings, and presidential plenaries. In 2025, we had nearly 60 sessions, including committee sessions, workshops, and presidential plenary.
Will the Online June Sessions of the Annual Meeting include opportunities for networking and mentorship?
Yes. On our platform (available through the EventPilot app or browser), you will find a “Networking” button underneath “Meeting Resources,” which will take you to a number of networking options including a chatroom, various discussion boards, and a Scholars Zoom lounge. Which part of the Annual Meeting is better, online or in-person?
Both online and in-person meetings will maintain the same rigorous review and selection process we have always had. The online sessions are another space to present innovative research and scholarship, accessible to all.
Will this online meeting be cohosted with the Society of Biblical Literature?
No. Unlike our in-person November meeting, our online meeting is hosted by AAR only.
Are there any discounts for registering for both the Online June Sessions and the in-person Annual Meeting?
No, there are no discounts for registering for both meetings.
Do I have to be a member to present at the Online June Sessions of the Annual Meeting?
Like our in-person November Annual Meeting, AAR membership is required to present.
How do I access the Online June Sessions platform?
A few weeks before the Online June Sessions begin, registrants will receive an email with instructions for how to access the online platform. If you don’t receive that email, please reach out to annualmeeting@aarweb.org.
Will the online sessions be recorded for later viewing?
There will be some recordings available to AAR members for later viewing.
