Our Reading Religion mentorship program supports first-time book reviewers and bridges the gap between experienced and new scholars in religious studies and related fields to improve book-reviewing skills.
We are looking for both mentors and mentees for this one-on-one mentorship program. Mentors should be experienced scholars with at least three book reviews. Mentees should be graduate students, early-career researchers, or scholars new to reviewing books. Mentees will be paired with mentors based upon their share research interests. Mentors will provide feedback on mentees’ reviews, guiding them on structure, content, critical analysis, and writing style. The goal is to submit a polished review to Reading Religion by the end of the mentoring period.
Schedule
The mentorship will last for a period of six months to a year, during which time at least one book review should be completed by the mentee under the guidance of the mentor. Mentors and mentees will communicate at least twice a month, through email, phone, or virtual meetings. Any discussions, drafts, and feedback should remain confidential between the mentor and mentee.
Please complete an application to be part of the Reading Religion mentorship group.
Mentee application deadline is March 14; mentor application deadline is April 30.
