The AAR is saddened to share that Fred Denny, professor emeritus of Islamic Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder, passed away on March 26, 2025. Fred was a giant in the field of Islamic studies, a dedicated and gifted scholar and teacher; a kind and generous colleague, mentor, and friend. His contributions to the discipline, to the AAR, and to the department are immense and lasting, and we will remember him with deep gratitude.
