AAR is a member of several associations and has longstanding partnerships with other organizations, publishers, and institutions.

AAR's related scholarly organizations (RSOs) regularly meet at and contribute to the Annual Meetings. We also offer organizations institutional membership or affiliate status.

AAR is a member organization of:

American Council of Learned Societies:
AAR has been a member since 1979.

International Association for the History of Religions:
AAR has been a member since 2010. All AAR members are automatically IAHR members.

National Humanities Alliance:
AAR has been a member since 1983 and an annual sponsor of Humanities Advocacy Day since 2001.

Emory University:
AAR is an Affiliate Organization of Emory University; the AAR and the SBL jointly own the Luce Center on Emory's campus.

Society of Biblical Literature (SBL):
AAR and SBL hold concurrent Annual Meetings and are co-owners of the Luce Center.

Oxford University Press:
OUP publishes the Journal of the American Academy of Religion and four active AAR book series.

Columbia University Press:
Columbia University Press publishes the American Lectures in the History of Religions.

Society Publishers’ Coalition:
AAR joined this coalition of not-for-profit learned societies focused on open-access publishing in 2020.

Related Scholarly Organizations

The American Academy of Religion welcomes opportunities to cooperate with organizations that have similar missions to its own, which is to foster excellence in the academic study of religion and enhance the public understanding of religion.
