Emily Gravett Wins Katie G. Cannon Excellence in Teaching Award

The Committee on Teaching and Learning is pleased to announce that Dr. Emily O. Gravett has won the 2023 Katie Geneva Cannon Excellence in Teaching Award, which recognizes the importance of teaching and honors outstanding teaching in the field.

Dr. Gravett currently serves as the Assistant Director of the Teaching Area in the Center for Faculty Innovation and Associate Professor of Religion at James Madison University. Gravett’s commitment to holistic, inclusive, engaged, and community-oriented teaching and learning impressed the award committee. Attending to the intersections of religion, politics, culture, literature, and art, Gravett’s innovative approaches to syllabi design and classroom practices demonstrate her commitment to student access and improved religious literacy.
