As we gather in Denver for the Annual Meeting, we at the American Academy of Religion are saddened by the shootings that occurred at Club Q in Colorado Springs. We denounce violence that is enacted upon marginalized populations and are in solidarity with our LGBTQ+ community members and the victims of this tragedy. We, too, understand the machinations of a world that regularly visits harm on marginalized populations as especially relevant on this Transgender Day of Remembrance.
