The AAR is saddened to share that Albert J. Raboteau, Henry W. Putnam Professor of Religion Emeritus at Princeton University, died this week. A beloved teacher and colleague, Raboteau’s research has left an extraordinary legacy in the field of African American religious history, African American studies, and American religious history. During his time as an AAR member he served as Secretary of the Board in 1980, on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Academy of Religion, and on the nominations committee.
