Affiliated Organizations

The AAR is affiliated with a number of organizations and institutions, including the following:

American Council of Learned Societies:
AAR has been a member since 1979

Columbia University Press:
Columbia University Press publishes the American Lectures in the History of Religions.

Emory University:
AAR is an Affiliate Organization of Emory University; the AAR and the Society of Biblical Literature own the Luce Center on Emory's campus.

International Association for the History of Religions:
AAR has been a member since 2010.

National Humanities Alliance:
AAR has been a member since 1983 and an annual sponsor of Humanities Advocacy Day since 2001.

Oxford University Press:
OUP publishes the Journal of the American Academy of Religion and five AAR book series.

Society of Biblical Literature (SBL):
AAR and SBL hold concurrent Annual Meetings and are co-owners of the Luce Center.

Society Publishers’ Coalition:
AAR joined this coalition of not-for-profit learned societies focused on open-access publishing in 2020.

Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning:
AAR is a partner on the Syllabus Project.

Related Scholarly Organizations

The American Academy of Religion welcomes opportunities to cooperate with organizations that have similar missions to its own, which is to foster excellence in the academic study of religion and enhance the public understanding of religion.
