Part One (of Four) in Inclusive Pedagogy Certificate Program

Watch the webinar above. You will be asked to register. Anyone can watch the video regardless of membership status, but only AAR members will be available to receive an AAR Certificate in Inclusive Pedagogy. If you are an AAR member, please include your name and the email associated with your AAR membership when asked to register to watch the video.

This webinar is part of the Inclusive Pedagogy Certificate. AAR members who participate in all four webinars and complete evaluation surveys of each will receive a Certificate in Inclusive Pedagogy.

The survey is sent out on a biweekly basis to those who registered at the link above, so there is no need to reach out for the survey once you've finished watching the video. Look out for an email with the subject line: Post-Webinar Evaluation #1: Universal Design for Learning in Theological Education. This will come from [email protected].

Once an AAR member has completed the survey, their attendance will be reflected in their membership record. After all four webinars have been viewed and the evaluation surveys have been completed, a certificate will be available for download by the AAR member.

Summary

This webinar, part of the Certificate in Inclusive Pedagogy program, explores the basic principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) as they relate to educators working in theological and religious education. The webinar includes discussions of syllabi and assessment development guided by UDL, as well as relevant resources that can support the integration of UDL into attendees’ current contexts.

Webinar Presenters

Sarah Jean Barton | Sarah Jean Barton is assistant professor of occupational therapy and theological ethics at Duke University with a dual faculty appointment in Duke’s School of Medicine and Divinity School. Her research focuses on the intersections of disability with theology, health, education, and religious participation. Dr. Barton’s research methodology prioritizes partnerships with individuals experiencing intellectual and developmental disabilities. She has completed recent work on Universal Design for Learning and accessible pedagogy, and her book, Becoming the Baptized Body, is forthcoming with Baylor University Press in August 2022

Heike Peckruhn | Heike Peckruhn is associate professor of religious studies at Daemen College. Her teaching and research weaves together aspects of embodiment moving through questions in theology, religion, and communal engagement. She has published on body methodologies in theology, disability studies, and queer studies, and facilitates workshops on inclusive teaching and racial identity development.

The Status of People with Disabilities in the Profession Committee (PWD) invites members of the American Academy of Religion to participate in four webinars designed to enhance competency in teaching topics related to disability as well as enhance accessibility in the classroom. Members who participate in all four webinars and complete evaluations of each will be receive an AAR/Committee on the Status of People with Disabilities in the Profession Certificate in Inclusive Pedagogy.
