Events & Networking

AAR events serve as opportunities for scholarly engagement and space for essential networking within the academic study of religion and beyond. Our in-person November Annual Meeting represents unparalleled opportunities to engage with colleagues, mentors, publishers, leaders in the field, and professional development experts. Our Online June Sessions and Year-Round Programming extend these opportunities throughout the entire year. The nine AAR Regions provide even greater access to professional development and collaboration with colleagues with meetings and events of their own.

AAR Year-Round Programming

AAR’s Year-Round Programming aims to extend the mission and purpose of the organization beyond the in-person November Annual Meeting. Partnered with the Online June Sessions of the Annual Meeting, AAR’s Year-Round Programming includes a variety of online-based scholarly and professional programs, networking and mentoring opportunities, and professional development sessions throughout the year. AAR’s Year-Round Programming is organized in three primary categories: WebinAARs, Mentoring & Networking, and Professional Development.

Annual Meeting

Our Annual Meetings – the In-Person November Sessions & Online June Sessions – bring together thousands of scholars from around the world. Each year, we facilitate hundreds of events, including academic sessions, workshops, receptions, and tours. The Exhibit Hall presents a vibrant networking space where attendees can pitch ideas to publishers, browse the latest publications, and connect with colleagues.

AAR Regions

Our ten regions focus on creating a community of scholars based on regional size, ethos, cooperation with other scholarly societies, and potential. The special size and character of regions encourage accessibility, adaptability, service to scholars at various career stages, collegiality, and flexibility of program.

Events and Opportunities

We share upcoming events and opportunities of interest to scholars of religion, including those sponsored by us as well as related programming submitted by external organizations.

Member Directory

AAR members can find colleagues and make new connections via the member directory, which is searchable by first name, last name, institution, and research interests.

Program Units

Program Units are the organizing research bodies that create the Annual Meeting program each year.
