Find Undergraduate Programs in Religion and Theology

An online finding list of undergraduate departments and programs of religion at accredited colleges and universities in North America.

Where does the data come from?

The National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago has provided this basic contact data on departments and programs to the American Academy of Religion. Items such as the name of the current chair are continually being updated with information provided by the Census of Departments and Programs in Religion and Theology and other sources. (For more information on the Census, please see the Census page.)

How do I use this service?

Users can search for institutions that have a department or program in which the study of religion (broadly construed) is a central focus by using a key word search.  A key word may be the name of the institution, department, chair, or city. Other search options include type of degree offered, and type of institution (e.g., public or private).

Can I update information about my program?

Yes! We welcome corrections. Please e-mail us at aar@aarweb.org with any new information (please include "Find Religion Update" in the subject line).

Select the criteria for your search from the following:

     Key Word:

This will find the text you enter in:
Name of the Institution   (e.g., "Harvard" or "Pepperdine")
Name of the Academic Unit   (e.g., "Candler" or "Truett")
City   (e.g., "Toronto" or "Vancouver")
Department Head   (e.g., "Alvarez" or "Kim")
Key word searches find records containing the key word in any field. At first, such a search will yield records that may not be useful to your search. If you search for "Smith" you will receive a response of all records with the word or partial word "smith" in them. Use the other fields below to narrow your search.
