Registration

Only those people who are registered for the Annual Meetings may utilize the Employment Center. You may register as either an AAR member, SBL member, joint member, or at the nonmember registration rate. All team members must be registered for the Annual Meetings. If you need to register for the Annual Meetings, please click here.

Employment Center employer preregistration opens on August 1, 2012, and closes on October 24, 2012. After that date, you may register onsite at the Employment Center during our hours of operation (you must bring two hard copies of your job listing with you). If you register onsite, you will be required to pay the onsite registration fee and also list your ad on Employment Listings for at least four weeks as per the requirements for participation with the Employment Center.

Employers may preregister for the Employment Center here.

Only once you have registered as an employer for the Employment Center will you be able to gain access to the Candidate CV Submission and Review System.

Employment Listings

In order to ensure the widest possible pool of candidates, all jobs registered with the Employment Center must be advertised in the online Employment Listings. Your ad must appear for at least 30 days and at least one of these days must fall within the 60-day period before the Annual Meetings. [So, for 2012, if you plan on listing an ad for the four week minimum, you must begin your ad no earlier than August 23, 2012. The end date of your ad would then be September 19 at midnight. This is the first day of the 60-day period out from the Annual Meetings and so would make your ad eligible for registration for the Employment Center.]

The fee for this advertisement is not included with your Employment Center registration fee. To place an ad in Employment Listings, click here.

Candidates are encouraged to begin reviewing Employment Listings and start applying for jobs in August.

CV Submission and Review System

The CV Submission and Review System is now open! You can login to the CV Submission and Review System at http://www.aarsbl.org. Once you register as an employer at the Employment Center, you will receive instructions on how to access the system via e-mail within 48 business hours of registering for the Employment Center.

You will be able to access the system at any time between August 15, 2012, to February 15, 2013, once you receive your access instructions. You will be able to share your access instructions with other members of your search committee team. CVs will be organized by both a primary and secondary classification and will be accessible by both classifications and candidates’ names.

If you do not receive your instructions via e-mail or have questions about the system, contact Stephanie Gray at careers@aarweb.org. Please be sure to check your spam e-mail folder as the instructions are sent automatically by the system and can therefore be interpreted as spam or junk mail.

Message Center

Employers will be able to communicate onsite at the Employment Center with candidates via the Message Center. The Message Center uses message cards and a system of drop boxes to facilitate confidential communication between employers and candidates. Both the employers and candidates will receive an ID number prior to arriving onsite.

Private Interview Rooms

Employers who wish to arrange for a Private Interview Room in addition to semi-private booth space in the Interview Hall may request access to this limited space during preregistration. Private Interview Rooms are available for three-hour sessions at an additional fee. This year, all Private Interview Rooms will be located in the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place Hotel. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for Employers

Is everyone on the interview team required to register for the Annual Meetings in order to use the Employment Center?

Yes, only those people who are registered for the Annual Meetings may utilize the Employment Center. You may register as either an AAR member, SBL member, joint member, or at the nonmember registration rate. All team members must be registered for the Annual Meetings.

We’ve missed the October 24 preregistration deadline. How do we now register?

You may register onsite in the Employment Center during normal operating hours:

Friday, November 16 7:00 PM (19.00h) – 9:00 PM (21.00h)
Saturday, November 17 8:00 AM (8.00h) – 7:00 PM (19.00h)

Monday, November 19 8:00 AM (8.00h) – 7:00 PM (19.00h)

To what services will my institution have access if we register onsite?

Institutions that register onsite will have access to the same services as those institutions that preregister with the following exceptions:

  • Job descriptions will not be published in the Annual Meetings print edition of Employment Listings. You will need to bring with you two copies of your job listing and we will post it on a bulletin board for the candidates to view.
  • Onsite registrants cannot reserve Private Interview Rooms or Interview Hall space prior to arriving onsite. Space is on a first-come, first-serve basis and every arrangement will be made to accommodate your requests once you register onsite; there are no guarantees though that your top preferences are still available.

We want to interview an Annual Meetings registrant. Does this candidate have to register with the Employment Center?

No. All registered Annual Meetings participants may interview as invited without registering for the Employment Center. However, an Annual Meetings name badge is required for admittance to all Annual Meetings activities and areas, including the Employment Center.

Does participating in the Employment Center guarantee that we’ll find someone to fill the position?

No, it does not. The Employment Center facilitates communication between candidates and employers. It is not a placement service.

How can my team inspect candidate credentials?

All registered candidates have the opportunity to file a CV. Registered employers will be able to view the CVs online from August 15, 2012, to February 15, 2013. Candidates are not required to submit a CV, but they are highly encouraged to do so.

What is my Employment Center ID?

All candidates and jobs are assigned a unique identifier that allows for confidential communication between candidates and employers. This ID, sent via e-mail to all registrants just before the Annual Meetings, establishes your ability to communicate confidentially with candidates. This ID, sent by e-mail to your institution’s designated contact in November, establishes your ability to communicate clearly with candidates.

What is the difference between an interview booth and a Private Interview Room?

All registered employers receive unlimited booth space (subject to availability) as part of the registration package. The booths are curtained units located in the Interview Hall, each containing one table and four to six chairs. The majority of registered employers use this space for their interviews.

Private Interview Rooms are hotel parlors, available to Employment Center registrants for an additional fee. This space is limited and is assigned in order of request.

What are open interviews? What are prearranged interviews?

Open interviews are when employers setup interviews with candidates onsite. Interviews are arranged onsite when a request is sent through the Message Center, a response is given, and a time selected and confirmed completely through the Message Center by the candidate and employer.

Prearranged interviews are when an employer schedules an interview with a candidate who has already applied for the position prior to the start of the Employment Center (generally the candidate has sent in an application through the job advertisement posted on Employment Listings). These employers are not expected to respond to general inquiries.

How do we use the Message Center?

Retrieving Messages: Messages for employers are left at the Message Center, where they will be distributed to mailboxes marked with the corresponding employer ID number. Employers are highly encouraged to check their mailbox regularly. Please respond to applicant messages; you may opt to use the courtesy responses listed at the bottom of the message form. All materials in the employer’s mailbox are confidential and only authorized persons may retrieve or review their contents.

Leaving Messages: Messages may be left for candidates at the Message Center. Employment Center staff will notify the candidate when they have a waiting message. Candidates must present their name badge and ID number or a picture ID in order to retrieve their messages.

Where does an employer meet an interview at the time of an interview?

Candidates with interviews in the Interview Hall wait in the Candidate Lounge (located within the Employment Center). Employers meet candidates at the lounge to greet and escort them to their assigned booth space.

When an interview has been scheduled in a Private Interview Room, candidates will need to check with the Private Interview Room Check-in Desk, located within the Employment Center, to find out where they should go. Please instruct candidates that they need to inquire with the Private Interview Room Check-in Desk at least 20 minutes ahead of their scheduled interview as the distance between the Employment Center and the Private Interview Rooms can sometimes be a bit of a walk.

How can I contact Employment Center staff?

If you wish to speak to the Employment Center staff prior to November 15, you may e-mail careers@aarweb.org or call 1-404-727-3059. After November 15, you will need to visit the Employment Center during its hours of operation.
