Why Join?

With more than 10,000 members, the American Academy of Religion (AAR) is the world’s largest organization serving teachers, scholars, and other professionals in the field of religion. AAR members are affiliated with institutions of higher education, and are also media and publishing professionals, clergy, independent scholars, high school teachers, and non-profit community workers. The professional diversity of the AAR’s membership reflects the substantial and growing role religion plays in the lives of individuals and communities as well as social, political, and economic events worldwide.

Membership in the AAR provides you with a spectrum of opportunities to both enrich your professional life and contribute to the field.

Special Member Benefits

ACLS Humanities E-Book
The American Academy of Religion is a member of the American Council of Learned Societies. The ACLS offers individual annual subscriptions to ACLS Humanities E-Book to current AAR members. By early 2010 HEB will be offering unlimited access to nearly 3,000 full-text, cross-searchable titles across the humanities and social sciences, from the 1880s through the present.

Individual subscriptions are an attractive option for those whose institutions don't already have a subscription to HEB or for AAR members who might not be affiliated with a subscribing institution. Individual annual subscriptions are $35.00. Please click here to see if your institution subscribes.

Click here to purchase an individual subscription to HEB. Please choose American Academy of Religion from the "Society Affiliation" pull-down menu and, in the space that says "Society Membership Number," provide your AAR membership number.
