Communication and Collegiality among Religion Scholars
Among the AAR's 11,000 members, you will find colleagues who share your scholarly and professional interests. The AAR is the largest and most inclusive association of religion scholars; its members explore all religious traditions from most every perspective possible.The World's Largest Annual Meeting in Religion
Held jointly with the Society of Biblical Literature each November, the Annual Meeting attracts some 11,000 registrants and 200 publishers. Though big in size, the Annual Meeting is organized around specific research and teaching interests. There are over 50 program units that plan some 225 sessions at each meeting. Thus, members who attend have opportunities to share their scholarly research, discuss their teaching interests, and hear from a range of national and international scholars of prominence. All AAR members receive the Call for Papers in February and the Annual Meeting Program Book in September.Journal of the American Academy of Religion
All members receive the Journal of the American Academy of Religion (JAAR), the only field-wide quarterly scholarly journal in religion. Aiming to reach scholars across the field, JAAR is the preeminent scholarly publication in religion today.Religious Studies News
The newspaper of record for the field of religion, Religious Studies News (RSN) includes feature articles and essays about issues important to the study of religion, research reports, Academy news, information about grants and events in the field, and a calendar . The AAR sponsors ten regional associations that hold annual scholarly meetings. Like the Academy-wide meeting, regional meetings afford opportunities to hear and make presentations on research and teaching, though on a congenial smaller scale. All AAR members are automatically enrolled in a regional association.Career Services
The Career Services Program connects employers and position-seekers through a regular job-listing titled Job Postings and the Job Center at the Academy-wide Annual Meeting.Research Grant Programs
