Carey J. Gifford joined the AAR executive office staff in March of 2002 as Director of Academic Relations, Editor of Religious Studies News, and as staff liaison to the Teaching and Learning Committee, Religion in the Schools Task Force, Academic Relations Task Force, Employment Information Services Advisory Committee, and the Publications Committee. Since 2005 he has been Director of Theological Programs, and staff liaison to the Publications Committee and the Theological Education Steering Committee. Carey has 13 years of association management experience (in financial planning, corporate taxation, and industrial engineering) and 15 years of book publishing experience, most of which was as Senior Editor at Abingdon Press. He is a graduate of Harding College, Yale Divinity School (M. Div.), and Claremont Graduate School (M.A., Ph.D. in History of Christian Thought). He has also taught religion and history for eight years as an adjunct at three colleges, and enjoys films, car restoration, and international travel.
